The elected Chairman of the CHP, Özgür Özel, announced that he was bidding farewell to the CHP at his party's TBMM Group Meeting and declared that they would establish a new party.
Making a group meeting speech for the last time as the CHP Chairman, Özgür Özel said at the beginning of his speech, "Today, I stepped up to this rostrum with different emotions than usual, perhaps carrying the sorrow of a farewell whose time has come."
Addressing Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu in his speech, Özel used the expressions, "Let us put the ballot box on the table, whether with the delegates of the congress we competed in, with the delegates of the last congress, or with each of our 2 million members, and let them decide on the chairman. I would consider a vote below 90 per cent as a vote of no confidence, and I would pave the way for the party. I challenge you, are you in?" Özel announced the new party and set the goal of ruling power.
Özel stated, "We are establishing the new party together with our Members of Parliament. With our newly established party, we are becoming the main opposition party of the TBMM by a wide margin." It was observed that 82 MPs attended the group meeting.
Using the expressions, "While bidding farewell to the CHP group rostrum, we are never abandoning the main opposition group rostrum," Özel gave the message, "However, we are now counting down the days to bid farewell to the main opposition group rostrum and to attain the ruling party group rostrum."
Regarding the political line of the new party, Özel made the call: "I invite all democrats who have no problem with Atatürk, no problem with the borders of the National Pact, and no problem with the republic, to embrace each other in the Turkey alliance and march to power together. We are the ones extending this invitation."
